Matchday 21 - Player of the Round

Carlos Aranda (Osasuna)
Javier Camunas may have scored the winning goal but Carlos Aranda was the real hero on Sunday when Osasuna shocked Real Madrid with a 1-0 win at the Reyno de Navarra. So often against the big sides, smaller teams find themselves penned back in their defensive thirds and they resort to booting the ball up the pitch. In most circumstances, this results in the superior attacking outfit coming straight back on the offensive. Not, however, if you have Aranda up front plucking every long ball out of the air. Holding up possession and either constructing play in the middle of the pitch or forcing fouls close to the halfway line. A second half Real Madrid onslaught was avoided largely thanks to the cunning and work-rate of this old fashioned centre forward.

  1. Sounds like he might be the next Andy Carrol. £35m? He had a great game against Almeria last week as well.

    This week, statistically, Aranda:

    won 2 corners
    won 2 fouls
    got 1 assist
    won 1 tackle

    but got booked.
